Ziauddin University's event highlights role of 'IEEE R10 Young Professionals UpSkill 2024'

KARACHI: Ziauddin University's IEEE Student Branch organised a day event 'IEEE R10 Young Professionals UpSkill 2024' in collaboration with IEEE Young Professionals Karachi Section, supported by IEEE Region-10 Young Professionals at Ziauddin University's Education City Campus, Link Road here.

Primary aim of event was to equip young professionals with skills needed to face challenges of Industry 4.0 and Industry 5.0. Renowned experts from academia highlighted optimisation of manufacturing through cloud-based data exchange and AI-driven solutions (Industry 4.0), while emphasising human-centric collaboration between people and machines (Industry 5.0).

Furthermore, experts emphasised growing relevance of biomedical engineering in context of Industry 4.0 and 5.0, discussing how AI-driven innovations are enhancing medical technologies. Experts collectively agreed that interdisciplinary collaboration between engineers, medical professionals and AI specialists is essential for driving forward groundbreaking developments in biomedical field.They included Prof. Dr. Muhammad Asif Dean of Sir Syed University, Prof. Dr. Zeeshan Ul Haque Dean of Salim Habib University, Prof. Dr. Abdul Qadir Chairman of Biomedical Department at MUET Jamshoro, and Prof. Dr. Ahsan Naeem Professor at UET Lahore who shared their views.

As Chief Guest addressing attendees, Vice-Chancellor of Ziauddin University Prof Dr. Muhammad Inayatullah Khan emphasised transformative impact of AI-driven tools like ChatGPT on modern education. "Our students are not only embracing AI but are actively using it to enhance their learning experiences. This shift from traditional, rigid methods to more dynamic, interactive and self-assessing approaches is revolutionizing how education is delivered," he remarked.He highlighted potential of AI to empower students in self-evaluation, encouraging them to take ownership of their learning processes, thereby fostering critical thinking and creativity. "Integration of AI into educational environment is helping us redefine boundaries of conventional learning, ensuring that our students are better prepared for demands of future," he added.

Engr. Dr. Fahad Azim Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Science, Technology and Management and Director Site, Ziauddin University emphasised importance of these cutting-edge technologies for professionals in fields such as electrical, biomedical and civil engineering.

He elaborated on IEEE's Region 10 initiatives, which provide resources for professional development through seminars, workshops and short courses aimed at both technical and non-technical skill enhancement.

"Volunteering is key for young professionals," said Dr. Azim, "As it provides valuable networking opportunities and career development even for those lacking extensive experience. IEEE Volunteering Platform is introduced, encouraging participants to engage in volunteer roles that offer hands-on experience and career advancement."

Session was moderated by Prof. Dr. Saad Jawaid Khan Principal of College of Engineering and Technology at Ziauddin University, who led discussions on significance of biomedical engineering and Industry 4.0/5.0 technologies.

Event also highlighted role of IEEE Young Professionals, dynamic, international community that fosters professional growth. Event concluded with reflection on how AI-driven tools like ChatGPT are transforming education.

Event, marking IEEE's continued commitment to empowering young professionals, catered to diverse audience and emphasized pivotal role of advanced technologies in shaping future.
