World’s 1st Qawwali Academy inaugurated by Gov Tessori

KARACHI: World’s first Qawwali Academy-Afzal Sabri Sufi Music Academy is officially inaugurated by Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori. Academy named after Qawwal AfzaI Sabri, aims to promote original music of Qawwali globally and preserve rich cult ural heritage of country.
Governor highlighting importance of creating institutions for youth said, “Original music of Pakistan is Qawwali and we will make our culture famous in whole world through Qawwali. It is very important to create institutions for youth and academy is now for youth.” He added that Qawwali teaches peace and love and that it is way to love Prophet (PBUH).
Fasyal Aziz Khan, well-known journalist and President of Bol Media Group said, “Sindh is land of sufis and elders, we are fortunate and our children and youth should learn Qawwali. We have to bring world closer to our music.”
Head of academy Qawal Afzal Sabri thanking Governor for his support said, “After seventy-five years, Academy of Qawwali has started working and credit goes to Governor who understood our problem and found solution.” He added that Qawwali classes have been started and youth are being trained under various courses.
He requested Governor to provide financial support to academy and urged Sindh government to set grants on an annual basis to ensure sustainability and growth of academy.
Afzal Sabri Sufi Music Academy is major milestone in preservation and promotion of Pakistan’s cultural heritage and is expected to play significant role in promoting Qawwali globally.
