World Bank to extend $3bn for power sector development

ISLAMABAD: World Bank (WB) will release over $ 3 billion to Pakistan for development of infrastructure in power sector, government announced.
“World Bank is assisting in energy efficiency and conservation programmes, apart from helping provinces in installing solar projects,” official statement said.
Commitment came on heels of a meeting between World Bank officials and Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir Khan and his team at Power Division.
Delegation was told that government had taken tough and difficult decisions in power sector and one of key measures was an increase in electricity prices. He said it was politically difficult, but government was committed to ensuring sustainability in energy sector. “Government is committed to providing relief to common man,” he said.
He appreciated World Bank for recognising challenges faced by country and difficult decisions taken in wake of it, according to statement. Delegation was also briefed on CASA-1000 and Dasu Power projects.
