Karachi: On World Mental Health Day (WMHD), October 10, Karwan-e-Hayat-Institute for Mental Health Care hosted an event at Keamari facility to raise awareness about mental health and wellness.

Primary focus of event was to encourage collective action from government, policy-makers and other stakeholders to complement this national endeavour.

Sindh Health Minister Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz outlined work that was presently being done to promote mental well-being in local communities including what more can be done in mental health space. Dr. Niaz explained some of major reasons that influenced mental health and these were not just limited to emotional resilience, physical health, social connections and quality of life. He pledged to intensify efforts to raise awareness about psychiatric treatment and make healthcare more accessible. In end he thanked Karwan-e-Hayat for being beacon of hope and vital partner in government’s mission to foster understanding and support for those afflicted by mental illness.

This year theme for World Mental Health Day ‘Mental health is universal human right’, as announced by WHO. Event featured distinguished panel of experts, mental health advocates and individuals who shared their insights, stories and practical strategies for promotion of mental health and wellness in Karachi and across nation.

Industry experts included Dr. Faisal Mamsa, Dr. Shahab Muhammad Khan, Prof. Dr. Qudsia Tarique, Prof. Dr. Naeem Siddiqi, Prof. Dr.Raza Ur Rehman, Prof. Dr. Zafer Haider, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Afridi, Senator Dr. Karim Ahmed Khwaja, Prof. Dr. Unaiza Niaz and others.

Attendees had opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions, ask questions and gain deeper understanding of how they can make difference in their communities.

Dr. Ajmal Kazmi, Prof. Dr. Imran B. Chaudhry, Dr. Chuni Lal and Dr. Hanna Pasha answered audience’s questions regarding psychiatric illnesses.
