Karachi: Former national team captain and chief selector Shahid Afridi has announced his intention to unveil internal dynamics and issues within Pakistan cricket team following conclusion of T20 World Cup.

Afridi’s revelation came during an appearance on private TV’s  programme, where he was questioned about apparent lack of unity within the team. Responding to host, Afridi hinted at knowing several undisclosed aspects but refrained from speaking openly at this juncture.  He highlighted the pivotal role of the captain in fostering or fracturing team unity.

“The captain is the leader who takes everyone along.  It’s the captain who sets the team atmosphere, either making or breaking it,” Afridi emphasised.He credited the captain with the ultimate responsibility of uniting the team on the field, supported by the selection committee.Afridi’s comments also touched on his personal relationships within the team, particularly with his son-in-law, Shaheen Afridi.“My relationship with Shaheen is different. Even if I talk about something, people will say that I am supporting my son-in-law, but I am not like that! If my daughter, son, or son-in-law is wrong, I will call them out,” he stated unequivocally. Critiquing the performance of the selection committee and the board over recent years, Afridi acknowledged significant errors and hinted at deeper issues within the management. “In the last few years, our selection committee and board have made big mistakes. I will speak openly after the World Cup. Our people themselves have spoiled this unit,” he said.“We were not up to mark in early overs, we had targeted 45-50 runs, we have not capitalised properly. Pitch looked decent, ball coming nicely. Little a bit slow and some balls are bouncing bit more. India’s innings, on other hand, saw collapse as they were bowled out for 119 runs.” Pakistan’s pace attack, led by Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, wreaked havoc, with Mohammad Amir also claiming crucial wickets.

Despite initial setbacks, India managed to reach respectable total. Both teams faced challenges due to rain interruptions, adding to intensity of match. Overall, it was fiercely contested match, showcasing competitive spirit of both teams in one of cricket’s most anticipated rivalries.
