WHO Mission Head gives Rs135m to Sindh for flood response, provision of clean drinking water

KARACHI: World Health Organization (WHO) Representative and Head of Mission Dr Palitha Mahipala handed over a donation cheque of Rs135 million to Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho, Sindh Minister for Health and Population Welfare, to strengthen flood response activities in the province during a ceremony held in Karachi.
Dr Mahipala handed over three mobile medical units and one maternity service unit to Sindh Minister for Health, fully equipped with all necessary equipment, supplies, portable ultrasound machine and power backups, including solar systems and generators.
Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho appreciated the WHO for its support and especially thanked Dr Mahipala for extended support to Sindh. She further added that the mobile units will help in provision of integrated medical care such as OPD, AN/ PN care, family planning, EPI, and lab services along with provision of modern facilities to sexual and reproductive health care, particularly in rural areas of Sindh. The World Health Organization has also been supporting department of health Sindh in provision of essential medical services, outreach mobile healthcare units and maternal services as well as provision of clean drinking water. Dr Mahipala also donated 500 water filtration plants to help provision of clean drinking water to the primary health care facilities in Sindh. In recent past, two water filtration plants with the capacity of 5000 litres water per hour were established with the support of WHO in district Dadu and Qambar.
