Weekly inflation up by 0.96 percent:PBS

Karachi: weekly inflation measured by Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), recorded an increase of 0.96 percent for combined consumption groups during week ended on April 4, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported.

According to PBS data, SPI for week under review in above-mentioned group was recorded at 326.29 points as compared to 323.20 points during past week.

As compared to corresponding week of last year, SPI for combined consumption group in week under review witnessed an increase of 29.45 percent.

During week, out of 51 items, prices of 16 (31.37pc) items increased, 13 (25.49pc) items decreased and 22 (43.14pc) items remained stable.

Items, which recorded decrease in their average prices on week-on-week basis included bananas (3.57pc), wheat flour (2.68pc), eggs and LPG (1.89pc) each, diesel (1.18pc), gur (0.63pc), sugar (0.41pc), mustard oil (0.26pc), pulse masoor (0.25pc) and potatoes (0.23pc).

Commodities which recorded an decrease in their average prices on year-on-year basis included bananas, cooking oil 5 litre, vegetable ghee 1 kg, vegetable ghee 2.5 kg, mustard oil, wheat flour, diesel and cigarettes.
