ISLAMABAD: Minister of Climate Change Sherry Rehman said we add one percent less in international pollution and we are at hottest place in world. We have to change our method and behaviour of life.
Addressing at Sustainable Development Policy Institute dialogue she said our public places, mountains and oceans have been polluted with plastic. All countries are recycling only 9 percent of scrape while on other hand world will increase plastic production three times by 2060. We are using plastic items without understanding recycling structure. Pakistan dumped 624 containers of scrape due to which I introduced ‘National Hazardous Waste Management Policy’ last year.
Pollythene bags are banned in Islamabad from last few years but I see these plastic bags everywhere, said Sherry Rehman. She said we are very clear to end use of ‘single use plastic items’. We cannot stop plastic use in south Asia but we have to fulfill social and collective responsibility for this.
By adopting climate friendly habit (use of re-useable shopping bags, water bottles and pots) citizens can start this important change, she said.
