KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab urged federal government to announce separate package for Karachi within new Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) for 2025 budget.

Talking to private news channel, he emphasised need for completion of previously announced projects for city, which have faced delays. He said Green Line project, which remains incomplete even after ten years, causing significant inconvenience to public. “Karachi contributes 60 to 65 percent of federal revenue through its two ports,” he said. He voiced hope that federal government would allocate dedicated budget package to Karachi, recognising its status as economic capital of Pakistan. Addressing issue of street crimes in Karachi, he assured that no negligence was being tolerated in matter. While situation had improved significantly compared to past, there was still more work to be done to further enhance security, he added.

He said that during MQM era, Karachi was considered one of most dangerous cities in world, plagued by terrorism, extortion and kidnappings. He said that current government was focused on taking practical steps to solve city’s problems rather than engaging in political point-scoring.
