KARACHI: Newly installed NGO ‘veterans of Pakistan’ (VOP) is turning out to be a threat to integrity of Pakistan and dignity of Armed Forces, which should be curbed immediately.

Hashmat Habib President Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Adlia viewed activities of this organisation minutely and said practicing advocate cannot use former judge, Attorney General and all other ex-officio titles similarly ex-servicemen if they enter politics or public affairs they cannot use their rank as retired with their name. Ex-servicemen were citizens of Pakistan prior to their joining of Armed Forces and accordingly, after retirement they are citizens as well as while on duty therefore, they enjoy equal protection of law.

Hashmat Habib said such NGOs or ex-servicemen societies are subject to law therefore anti-state propaganda through these organisations is strongly condemned. He said state functionaries should nib evil in bud before it becomes ‘Khatarnak’ like a politician to claim such reactions. He said that on International forum VOP and even Pakistan Bar Council are spreading their ill-founded views causing serious loss to sovereignty and integrity of Pakistan, which should not be allowed at any cost.

He said action being taken by establishment is also strictly in accordance with law and Army laws have provided its remedy. He said on other hand Army discipline for ex-servicemen remained part of Armed Forces. Therefore they are entitled to benefits if they break discipline these benefits can be withdrawn and no court can interfere in working of Armed Forces.
