Veteran artist Zeba Shehnaz’s career ‘struggle, sacrifices’

Karachi: Renowned TV and film artist Zeba Shehnaz started her career from PTV's 'Fifty Fifty' in 1980. She was awarded Tamgah-e-Imtiaz by government, Nigar Award for best supporting actress for 'Munda Bigra Jaey' in 1995 and special award for performance in 'Fifty Fifty' at First Indus Drama Award in 2005. She earned respect and fame in country as well as from abroad on her performance. Nowadays, she is giving smile to faces of people through her social work. She is attached with Karachi Institute of Radiology and Nuclear Medicines (Kiran) Hospital, Indus Hospital and Health Network, Husaini Blood Bank and Jafriya Disaster Management Cell Welfare Organisation (JDC). She performed in more than 100 characters in 'Fifty Fifty' with leading stars Ismail Tara and Majid Jahangir who are no more.
She entered in showbiz world in 60s when there was no concept for woman to adopt this profession. However she bore criticism.
Later she moved to Karachi and started work with Moen Akhtar, Anwer Maqsood, Umer Sharif and Safirullah Siddiqui best known as Lehri. She was portrayed in most of her plays as a comedian character. She also performed on stage. One of her most hilarious stage play is 'Bakra Qiston pay" with Umer Sharif. Her performance gained accolade by Urdu, Punjabi and Hindi spoken viewers and listeners in Pakistan, India besides abroad. She was very much attached with her father and on tour to USA she received news of her father's death. Even though, she appeared on stage and performed before audience. She also bore missing of her nephew Muhammad Shah Subhani in London and alter his body was recovered from a jungle. 'This was shocking for Zeba'. She is engaged in various social work deeds to heal suffering of poor.
