US eyes on giving Pakistan access to beef markets: Donald Blome

ISLAMABAD: US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome said that United States was considering allowing Pakistan access to US beef market and introducing high-yield cotton seed technology.
Ambassador said in a meeting with Minister for National Food Security and Research Tariq Bashir Cheema here. They discussed matters of mutual interest, said a press release. Minister welcomed ambassador and appreciated cordial relations between two countries. Cheema said Pakistan was facing challenges due to recent floods and rains.
“Our priority is to recover as much agricultural land as possible and help displaced people resettle back to their homes”. Donald Blome said people of United States stand with Pakistan and that US government was increasing flood assistance package for Pakistan. He said apart from assistance, he looks forward to expanding agriculture trade between two countries and building stronger relations. Ambassador expressed his interest in working with Pakistan in agriculture sector.
Minister welcomed initiative and said that in recent floods, cotton and dates were most affected crops. Donald Blome said US has a substantial commitment to address climate change through resilience and mitigation measures. “Pakistan is among top 10 countries affected by climate change,” he said.
