ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa said that “Others” will become powerful till Parliament becomes strong, as Supreme Court resumed suo motu hearing pertaining to allegations of spy agencies’ interference in judicial affairs.

Six-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, resumed hearing of suo motu case on Islamabad High Court judges’ letter accusing agencies meddling in judicial matters.

“Under what law Intelligence Bureau, Inter-Services Intelligence and Military Intelligence were established?” judge asked, adding that court should be apprised of relevant laws on next hearing.

“I will never accept any interference from any source”, top judge remarked. At outset of hearing, CJP Isa clarified that Supreme Court Committee had decided to hear this case under Article 184/3 of Constitution. He apprised that committee had decided that all judges, who were available in Islamabad, should be called.

“There was no pick and choose in this hearing,” said CJP, adding that Justice Afridi had recused himself from bench.

During hearing, CJP Isa remarked that if someone wants to impose themselves on court then it would also be considered “Interference”.

“Interference can be from intelligence agencies, from your colleagues and from your family member,” said CJP, adding that court will show by conduct whether there is interference or not.

Stressing that SC rules are made by Parliament, CJP said that Sindh and Balochistan assemblies can do what Parliament can’t. Supreme Court then adjourned hearing till May 7.
