University of Lahore wins Women's Tennis Championship 2023, GCU Lahore finishes as runners-up

Lahore: The Inter-University Women Tennis Championship 2023 concluded today at the GC University Lahore, with a thrilling final match. The University of Lahore emerged as the champions, securing the first position and winning a cash prize of Rs. 30,000. The GC University Lahore secured the second position with a cash prize of Rs. 24,000, and the University of Punjab secured the third position with a cash prize of Rs. 18,000. The tournament featured participation from 16 teams representing universities from across the country, and was a great showcase of the talent and skill of women in tennis.

The final match was attended by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Asghar Zaidi as the chief guest. He distributed the prizes to the winners and congratulated them on their achievements. He praised the hard work of GCU Director Sports Waseem Akhtar and his organizing committee for putting the tournament together. He also talked about the immense talent the girls have in tennis and how the tournament provided an excellent opportunity for talented women from different universities to showcase their skills and compete at the highest level. He emphasized that such events play a vital role in promoting women's athletics and gender equality in the athletic arena.

He thanked the HEC for the opportunity to host this event, especially Javed Memon DG sports, HEC for his collaboration with GCU on any matters of sports. Dr. Zaidi went on to highlight that this year was the first time ever GCU has participated in women's tennis, and it is a remarkable feat to come out second among the sixteen teams competing. He also noted that it was the first ever occasion for GCU women to participate in all HEC women's competitions.
