KARACHI: In a groundbreaking move, the University of Alberta in Canada and Sindh Agriculture University in Pakistan are poised to come together in April 2024 for a collaborative workshop on “Carbon Neutral Villages and Environmental Impact Assessment.”
Facilitated by the Hoopo Canada Organization, this initiative aims to foster international collaboration and empower students to address persistent environmental challenges. Building on its existing partnership with Hoopo Inc., Canada, the GSFN, UK, and the Farm Carbon Toolkit, UK, Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam, will expand its collaboration with the University of Alberta, Canada, to establish Carbon Neutral Villages in Pakistan.
Joshua Alan Young from the USA will share Hoopo’s mission to synergize global North resources to foster carbon literacy and develop carbon-neutral villages in the global South to attain the Netzero agenda. This initiative aims to create jobs and entrepreneurship opportunities for students and farmers.
Liz Bowles, the Chief Executive Officer at the Farm Carbon Toolkit (FCT), will also participate in the workshop. She will emphasize the need for academia to leverage FCT to develop strategies to build Carbon Neutral Villages for the global South. Bowles recently assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer at the Farm Carbon Toolkit, where she has been a director for the past five years.
With over 30 years of experience in agriculture and food, Liz brings a practical approach combined with scientific and sector knowledge to her roles.
Hoopo Canada Organisation plays a pivotal role in facilitating this collaboration. This organization nurtures a space where knowledge exchange happens with mutual respect and understanding of cultural contexts.
Moreover, the workshop is also inclined towards collaboration with local stakeholders in Pakistan, ensuring the solutions developed are practical and relevant to village needs. Students participating in this workshop will gain valuable knowledge and skills that will enhance their future careers.
This awareness session will make students learn about the right understanding of carbon neutrality and EIA strengthens a student’s profile, making them more competitive in the job market, particularly in the environmental sector.
Furthermore, this collaboration raises the need for leadership skills and the ability to work effectively in diverse teams, preparing students for the globalized workplace.
