UNEP head, Sherry Rehman discuss ecosystem restoration

KARACHI: Under Secretary General of United Nations and Executive Director of United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Inger Andersen discussed climate change, rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood victims and other issues with Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman, She appreciated her role in ecosystem restoration. Senator thanked UN delegation for visiting flood-affected areas.
Minister informed UN delegation about flood victims, recovery and reconstruction process and challenges faced by government. She emphasised turning Living Indus project into practical reality.
She also welcomed announcement of establishment of permanent office of UNEP in Pakistan as propitious step. She said, “Timely and proper transfer of grants is essential in rehabilitation process. Cooperation and partnership between United Nations and government of Pakistan is indispensable to deal with climate change.” UNEP Executive Director said that working with government of Pakistan is her first priority.
