KARACHI: Karachi Electric Co. Ltd., (K-E) has no certified energy meter testing laboratory or any other facility for this purpose. It was transpired when an affected consumer investigated in this regard.

Consumer discovered that although K-E claims that it has meter testing laboratory at Elander Road through which company blackmails innocent consumers in name of meter testing but in fact this so called lab has no authentication or registration certificate from government of Pakistan. It has no meter testing physical fitness certificate, neither climate certificate.K-E has no any professional degree holder technician for energy meter testing lab purposes nor does it have any certification from Pakistan Engineering Council. In absence of all above-said certifications K-E administration arbitrarily and illegally threatening its consumers under false allegations of meter doctoring and penalising them with heavy amounts without any authenticity under umbrella of corrupt NEPRA management and with connivance of Electric Inspector appointed by Sindh government.  They are illegally disconnecting power supplies of consumers under false charges and minting billions of rupees through this double-crossing. Another discloser made by informed sources is that K-E management wrongly claims that it has power generation capacity of 3,555 MW while its transmission is not more than 2,200 MW in city.

But on other hand K-E had sanctioned load of 15,241 MW to consumers i.e. six times more than its actual capability and billing them with fixed charges heavily despite of long load shedding hours. However, later in year 2023 NEPRA management confessed at 12,438 MW sanctioned loads to consumers that was again five times higher than actual transmission of power, sources added.
