The United Nations General Assembly, a representative association of the entire international community established to maintain peace in the world, yesterday approved the immediate ceasefire resolution presented by the Arab group, to end the deadly war that has been going on for three weeks in Gaza. In this resolution, both Israel and Palestine acts of violence against civilians have been condemned. In the emergency session of the General Assembly, the resolution presented by Jordan representing 22 Arab countries regarding the situation in Gaza was supported by 120 members, including France, out of 195. 14 members including Israel, USA and Austria voted against the resolution while 45 members including Germany, Italy and UK abstained.

This is the first official reaction of the UN to the ongoing war since the 7th of this month, but this resolution on the ceasefire on humanitarian grounds is also non-binding, that is, the parties are not bound to act on it. However, while welcoming the UN resolution, Hamas has demanded humanitarian aid and fuel for the civilian population in Gaza, while the Palestinian Foreign Minister has said that Israel has reached new extremes of brutality in Gaza. The international community has taken a clear position to stop Israeli insanity and aggression. Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, in his speech at the United Nations General Assembly, condemned the Israeli aggression in Palestine and said that the Israeli attacks should be stopped immediately and the delivery of aid to the Palestinians should be ensured.

The protest of the Israeli representative for not mentioning Hamas and the hostages in the resolution, threats to annihilate Gaza, the support of Israel's position by the United States, and the American-backed amendment presented by Canada in this regard were rejected.

With the support of 22 Arab countries, this resolution presented by Jordan was also sponsored by 50 countries, which makes it clear that the majority of the international community considers the position of the Palestinians as correct compared to Israel.

However, it is a great irony that the resolutions of the General Assembly representing the vast majority of the United Nations, i.e. 195 countries, are non-binding, while the resolutions of the Security Council, which consists of only 15 members, are binding, but even here, the 5 countries with the power of veto can reject the position of the majority, which undermines that democracy.

It is a complete negation of that democracy which the powerful western world does not get tired of declaring as its proud achievement. This situation has made the United Nations an inefficient and instrumental organization of the interests of a few powerful countries regarding the establishment of justice and peace in the world. It is possible to end this situation of the global human society, whose stick is the buffalo, only if the truth is recognized as power, that is, the world should be governed by the right by the might instead of the might by the right. The need of the hour is that for the fulfillment of the original goals and objectives of the United Nations, intellectuals  all over the world should be active in order to highlight this need in the world public opinion, and the member countries of the United Nations should campaign for the establishment of democracy in this international organization. In accordance with the resolution approved by the General Assembly for the immediate improvement of the situation in Gaza, start the delivery of basic needs including water, food, medicine, fuel, electricity and all kinds of relief goods to the United Nations and other humanitarian organizations in Gaza.

All obstacles should be removed and all possible measures should be implemented for an early ceasefire. In accordance with the resolution approved by the General Assembly for the immediate improvement of the situation in Gaza, start the delivery of basic needs including water, food, medicine, fuel, electricity and all kinds of relief goods to the United Nations and other humanitarian organizations in Gaza.

After the attack by Israeli tanks on the north-east of Gaza on Thursday last and the arrest of 400 Palestinians, it has become necessary for the United Nations to immediately intervene in the matter and establish a cease-fire through the international peacekeeping force. Ensure that local residents are not subjected to torture and war crimes in any part of Occupied Palestine, not just Gaza.  The main purpose of the United Nations Charter is to establish peace in every part of the world and to protect people's life, property, honor and dignity.

Since its illegal occupation of the land of Palestine, Israel has made life miserable for the true inheritors of this land and has created conditions that no nation can tolerate.  The President of Brazil rightly said that what is happening in Gaza is not a war, it is a genocide of Palestinians. In war, both sides fight each other face to face. Given the manner in which Israel continues to deprive the land of the true inhabitants of the land by killing, starving, economic torture, and daily military operations, one cannot expect the Palestinians not to resist. The events that took place on and after October 7 are the manifestation and result of the state of Israeli atrocities and oppression of the subjugated inhabitants.  According to reports, 750 Palestinians, including 344 more children, were martyred in 24 hours in the ongoing heavy bombardment of Gaza by Israel in one of its latest attack. 1,600 were missing and are likely to be buried in the rubble. Rescue operations were halted due to running out of fuel. Only two percent of food was being supplied to the besieged area.

People around the world, including UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, are worried about the devastation in Gaza, the wanton killing of civilians and hunger, but some powers have gone so far in support of their grown child Israel. That resolutions presented to the UN Security Council to condemn Israel and cease war were vetoed or rejected.

The countries opposing the ceasefire actually want to give Israel this respite to force Hamas to kneel, but the more cruelty increases, the more undesirable and anti-humanist the role of Israel will become for the people of the world.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's announcement of his open support for Hamas and the cancellation of his visit to Israel is a manifestation of this.

Describing the workers of Hamas as Mujahideen, he said that they are fighting for their freedom. Similar sentiments have also been expressed by other Muslim leaders, while statements by many Western countries represent their relationship with Israel.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei named the United States as involved in the massacres in Gaza and said that its hands are stained with the blood of all the oppressed.  In these circumstances, as the spokesperson of Pakistan's Foreign Ministry said, it was necessary to ensure measures to stop aggression in Palestine.
