UN, EFP strengthen collaboration on SDGs, fair work

KARACHI: Employers' Federation of Pakistan team in collaboration with International Labour Organisation Office for Pakistan discussed enhancing private sector involvement in achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
United Nations Resident Coordinator in Pakistan Mohamed Yahya was present. EFP presented its initiatives, including development of Pakistan Business Task Force under United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and presented three-year roadmap for private-sector engagement in process in achieving sustainable development agenda. Mohamed Yahya commended EFP's proactive role and emphasised crucial contribution of private sector in achieving SDGs. UNRC stressed significance of maintaining Pakistan's GSP+ status, particularly for textile sector, which plays pivotal role in country's economy. Malik Tahir Javaid President of EFP said, "Task Force will serve as powerful collective force, bringing together all important stakeholders to steer private sector towards sustainable future." Geir Tonstoel ILO Country Director for Pakistan emphasised need for tripartite stakeholders to engage in social dialogue, which is critical for establishing favourable policy and regulatory framework that enables sustainable business practices.
Syed Hasnain Mazher Director of EFP emphasised critical role of skills development and capacity building, especially for SMEs. Syed Nazar Ali Secretary General of EFP presented roadmap for business engagement, particularly highlighting private sector's potential contribution to Sustainability Agenda.
