UAE group, Wapda ink MoUs to address energy crisis

Karachi: Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Ahmed Dalmook Al Maktoum’s private office signed two Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) to undertake strategic projects in Pakistan’s energy sector.
Reports reaching here said In Pakistan, private office has demonstrated its commitment to energy sector through various investments, including Oracle Energy Green Hydrogen project. Furthermore, private office has expanded its involvement in infrastructure sector by recently forming joint venture with AD Ports Group, focusing on operation and management of Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited.
First MoU focuses on development of floating solar power project of up to 1,000 MW on existing water reservoirs, while second MoU aims at rehabilitating, upgrading and enhancing capacity of four hydro power projects, namely Renala, Rasul, Chichokimalian, and Nandipur.
Under these agreements, parties will assess technical and economic feasibility of projects and formulate an implementation plan. Furthermore, they intend to approach National Electric Power Regulatory Authority promptly to seek tariff structure for floating solar power projects. This step is crucial in facilitating necessary investments outlined in MoUs and providing support for planned ventures.

MoUs establish cooperative framework between private office and Wapda, facilitating collaboration and exploration of investment opportunities, particularly in WAPDA’s small hydro power projects.
Portfolio of private office encompasses range of privately and publicly held group companies, which primarily operate in sectors such as energy (both conventional and renewable), infrastructure, LNG, oil and commodity trading, healthcare and agriculture.
