UAE approaches COAS Bajwa, pledges assistance for flood victims: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities contacted Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and pledged 20 aircrafts carrying relief items for flood victims, quoting Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
ISPR in a statement said that UAE authorities have contacted COAS for flood relief assistance and pledged 20 aircraft sorties flood relief equipment to assist flood victims across Pakistan. On appeal of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a plane from United Arab Emirates carrying relief goods for flood-affected people of Pakistan landed at Nur Khan Airbase in Rawalpindi. Relief goods include tents, food items, medicines and other essential goods. UAE Ambassador to Pakistan and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal received relief goods at airport.
It is pertinent to mention that 15 more planes carrying relief goods will reach Pakistan in coming days on instructions of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed telephoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and conveyed his heartfelt condolences over loss of precious lives due to torrential rains and flash floods in different parts of Pakistan. UAE President expressed firm solidarity with people of Pakistan in this difficult time and wished all injured a speedy recovery. He offered all possible assistance to Pakistan to tackle this natural calamity. In this context, he apprised Prime Minister that UAE would be immediately dispatching food supplies as well as medical and pharmaceutical supplies, in addition to tents and shelter materials.
