KARACHI: Two policemen were martyred in a grenade explosion inside police headquarters in Garden area. Explosion took place inside ammunition depot of police headquarters, resulting in martyrdom of two personnel and injury to two others.

Martyred cops were identified as constables Sabir and Shahzad, while injured person was arms depot in-charge, inspector Saeed. Police officials said that investigation is underway and bomb disposal squad has been called in.

Speaking to journalists, South Deputy Inspector-General SharjeelKharal said that his staff had two grenades and one exploded in hands of a member. Confirming death of two officials, DIG South termed it “a sad incident” adding that an inquiry will be conducted.

He revealed that officers were inspecting warehouse after monsoon rain spell because of reported damage. “For cleaning of warehouse, bombs are first diffused. Bomb exploded during diffusion; however, another was successfully diffused.”
