Two-member team off to Kenya to probe Sharif’s death

ISLAMABAD: A two-member Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) team formed left for Kenya to investigate and ascertain fact of senior journalist Arshad Sharif’s killing on foreign land under mysterious circumstances.
Development came days after government formed a two-member team comprising FIA director Athar Wahid and IB Deputy Director General Omar Shahid Hamid to ascertain facts of journalist’s murder.
However, sources privy to development revealed two officials have left for Doha on separate planes. Head of team, Athar Waheed flew from Islamabad to Doha via Qatar Airlines flight number 615, while Omar Shahid Hamid left Karachi for Doha.
Team will resume journey to East African country from Doha Airport and will set sail for Nairobi.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan Embassy in Kenya will be obliged to facilitate investigation team and provide assistance during its stay. Sources added that probe team will dig out facts about events that took place before and after murder, including circumstances that led to arrival of Arshad Sharif who fled country after he was charged with sedition in Kenya. Besides, team will also find out late journalist’s accommodation arrangements in country. It will review post-mortem report in Kenya, vehicle and travel records of victim of shooting and police team there.
