Treat TTP threat same as Daesh, Pakistan tells world

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has been telling international interlocutors that there is no distinction between banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Daesh in an effort to galvanise support for exerting pressure on Afghan Taliban government.

Many countries in region and beyond consider Daesh as an immediate threat while they view TTP as Pakistan’s problem. This view held by certain countries is making it difficult for Pakistan to garner kind of support it needed against TTP. One of the arguments Pakistan is making with those countries is that both TTP and Daesh are same. “They are working in tandem. Don’t draw distinction between two,” said source familiar with backdoor efforts to garner support against Taliban regime.

Diplomatic source also confirmed that they were recently briefed by Pakistani officials about likely nexus between TTP and Daesh. Purpose behind Pakistan’s latest push is to make international community realise that TTP is as dangerous as Daesh. Pakistan is hoping that international community would not turn blind eye towards activities of TTP. According to sources, Pakistan wants international players to treat TTP threat same way as they are in case of Daesh. Daesh took responsibility for major terrorist attacks not just in Pakistan, but in Iran and now in Russia.

With these latest diplomatic maneuvers, Pakistan is trying to remind international community that Afghanistan is once again becoming “Hub of terrorists”.
