Traders reject hikes in electricity bills

KARACHI: Traders have voiced strong opposition to recent increase in electricity bills and persistent issue of unannounced load shedding in metropolis.
President of Tariq Road Trades Alliance, Ilyas Memon condemned hike in electricity prices, describing it as an additional burden on businesses which already grappling with excessive billing from K-Electric. “Markets are suffering due to load shedding during ongoing heatwave, which is severely affecting business operations,” Ilyas Memon added. President of Tariq Road Trades Alliance called on Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry to intervene in this matter. Memon expressed urgent need for government to withdraw recent electricity price increase and to address problem of unannounced load shedding. He urged for an overhaul of existing tax system, which he described as oppressive to both businesses and general public
