LAHORE: Trading community has rejected government’s energy conservation plan through market closure across country by 8pm, saying that government must prepare policy in consultation with representatives. In statement, All-Pakistan Anjuman Tajiran (APAT) Secretary General Naeem Mir said that provincial government should have consulted with trading community before agreeing to decision.
He noted that business community purchases most expensive electricity and therefore, favourable strategies should be devised for them. He asked whether power outages will occur following implementation of energy conservation plan. “Status of government’s announcement will be formal when all stakeholders agree,” Naeem Mir added. Meanwhile, Karachi Electronics Dealers Association President Muhammad Rizwan Irfan lamented that government did not consult traders regarding energy-saving plan. “Reducing business hours cannot save energy,” he said, urging government to reconsider decision to close markets at 8 pm. He claimed that traders were already facing prolonged power outrages Rizwan asked government not to impose decisions of ‘closed rooms’ on trading community.
