Traders block MA Jinnah Road against GST in KE bills

KARACHI: Traders have blocked Muhammad Ali Jinnah Road to protest against collection of Rs 6,000 additional Sales Tax from electricity bills. According to details, traders staged protest near Tibet Centre against ‘illegal’ collection of additional Sales Tax in electricity bills.
“Government forced business community to take to streets,” traders said, threatening government to close their businesses if Rs 6,000 levy was not removed from power bills.
Protesting traders said that they are already paying Sales Tax on electricity bills. “Unfortunately, closed shops are now levied to pay an extra Sales Tax of at least Rs 6,000” they added.
Earlier, K-Electric spokesperson clarified that company has no objections to removing General Sales Tax on electricity bills which was announced by federal government in current fiscal year’s budget for all power distribution companies.
