ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said it was time for State institutions to get united for upholding Constitution and keeping national interest supreme. Addressing at launch of 1973 Constitution mobile application, he said Pakistan was currently at crossroads of constitutional challenges, which required sense of wholeness to be demonstrated by State institutions.
In connection with golden jubilee of country’s Constitution 1973, mobile application has been developed by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting under leadership of Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb in collaboration with National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Application will act as digital source to help raise awareness among general public about 1973 Constitution.
Shehbaz Sharif said Constitution had its roots in Parliament, adding that according to world-recognised concept, judiciary can only interpret law, but cannot re-write it. “It does not happen anywhere in world that court issues stay order against legislation which is still in making,” he said. He urged judiciary to reassess its role and become protector of Constitution.
He said 1973 Constitution was result of hard toil of politicians from all backgrounds, who arrived at consensus in formulation of sacred document. He said although politicians made mistakes in past, but it was time to rectify them.
PM Sharif said on eve of 50th anniversary, decision to include 1973 Constitution in syllabus at schools and college levels was remarkable in raising awareness about its sanctity.
