Islamabad: PTI Chief Imran Khan claimed that attempts are being made to sabotage findings of joint investigation team (JIT) probing failed assassination attempt on his life. Imran sustained multiple injuries in gun attack in Wazirabad on November 3 last year while leading his ‘Haqeeqi Azadi’ march towards Islamabad.
One person died in shooting, while several members of PTI chairman’s close circle, including Faisal Javaid, Imran Ismail, Ahmad Chattha and Imran Yousaf were injured. “If anyone still has any doubts about who was responsible for my assassination attempt, just see what is happening with JIT report submitted before anti-terrorist court,” Imran Khan wrote on his official Twitter handle.
“Attempts to sabotage findings of JIT in its report through deliberate tampering are now underway,” he claimed. He said prosecutor general, after an independent inquiry had found four officers guilty of destroying evidence and sought action against them. “But powerful forces have made Punjab caretaker government reconstitute JIT to include all 4 of these officers with one of them, Syed Khurram Ali, as Convener,” he added. Important record pertaining to investigation of attack on Imran Khan in Wazirabad has gone missing from Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment.
Record contained investigation files of joint investigation team formed to probe assassination bid. An ACE officer, Anwar Shah was member of JIT and was looking after record at vigilance cell. Officer was later suspended. Earlier this month, newly-appointed ACE Director General Sohail Zafar Chatha had announced establishment of five-member committee to investigate matter.
