Karachi: Closing ceremony of ten-day Clean and Green campaign of Central District was held at Karachi Medical and Dental College Auditorium. Deputy Commissioner District Central Taha Saleem planted sapling in connection with the plantation campaign.

Director Education Mehtab Jahan, Syed Basir Zaidi of Karachi Residency Foundation, civil society, environmental organisations and associations of private educational institutions, students and number of local residents participated. Taha Saleem said that Clean and Green campaign is coming to an end successfully. Efforts of people and students in this campaign are commendable. Spirit of campaigner is admirable for playing part in making Clean and Green campaign success in harsh summer season. He added that global climate change is reality.

Pakistan is among ten countries that will be affected by this change. We can reduce pollution by planting more trees in our country, city and district through climate change awareness campaign and plantation drive. Our hard work today can provide our future generations with clean and transparent environment in future. We try to have plantation drive more than once a year. Ee are rehabilitating parks of Central District under 100 Parks Restoration Project. In this regard, 75 parks have been handed over to public after renovation. District will look green in near future. Shamoona Sadaf said that planting charity is ongoing. Participation of school children in Clean and Green campaign is welcoming sign as it helps future architects to be aware of environment and their involvement in plantation campaign vital. It is duty of both government and people to keep environment clean and prove to be responsible citizens.

Qawwali Night was also organised, where certificates of appreciation were given to employees, civil society members and students who performed best in campaign.
