Strict action to be taken if any private party exhibits ‘Pathan’ screening: Chairman Film Censor Board

Karachi: Sindh Board of Film Censors, Culture, Tourism, Antiquities and Archives Department has said that no any private party/individual is entitled to make or arrange public or private exhibition of film by means of cinematograph unless such film has been duly certified for public exhibition by Censor Board.

In a press statement Board informed that it has come to knowledge via social media that Fireworks Events are going to organise public exhibition of film, 'Pathan (Urdu/Hindi) on February 4, 2023 at plot 34-C, first floor Khayaban-e-Shahbaz Karachi. In this connection, Fireworks Events are going to book tickets for said film on cell phone number 0334-3805539.

Chairman Board Khalid Bin Shaheen said, 'Section 4 (10) of Sindh Motion Pictures Act 2011 regulates public or private exhibition of film and no any can exhibit film without certification by Board'. It is therefore appropriate exhibition of film 'Pathan' should immediately be cancelled. In case if you have been found to violate provisions of aforementioned Act, such violation would amount to punishment as provided under section 18(1) which reads without lawful authority, any film which has not been certified by Board cannot be exhibited, altered, tempered, shall be punishable with imprisonment for term which may extend to three years, or with fine which may Rs 100,000 or with both. In case of continuing offence, with further fine which may extend to Rs 10,000 for each day during which offence continues, it added.

Khalid Bin Shaheen while talking exclusively to Daily National Courier said that whoever intent to cross the legal lines as set by the censor board will have to face dire consequences as at present screening of ‘Pathan’ has been categorically restricted by the concerned authority in light of law.
