Hyderabad: Professors and doctors of Pakistan attended Silver Jubilee Annual Symposium of Pakistan Hypertension League Organisation. Addressing event, Convener Symposium Professor Syed Faseeh Hashmi said that number of participants’ shows that we are on way to success in our goal, more than 46 percent of citizens in Pakistan are suffering from high blood pressure.
According to Pakistan Hypertension League, a medical organisation more than nine out of every 20 Pakistanis are suffering from medical condition of high blood pressure and proportion of young people among such citizens is higher than in past.
According to medical experts, this situation is alarming because there is a severe lack of satisfactory medical facilities in country even in many urban areas, while situation is even worse in rural areas. Experts say reason for their concern is that long-term high blood pressure can predispose a person to various heart diseases and kidney diseases, as well as cause medical consequences such as hemorrhage and stroke. Professor Feroze Memon said about 52 percent of population in Pakistan is suffering from high blood pressure. 42 percent of victims do not even know how they became hypertensive patients. High blood pressure is often called ‘silent killer’ by medical experts because there are no visible symptoms of high blood pressure, which can help detect it in its early stages. Therefore, patient becomes aware of problem when his health begins to suffer. Prof. Abdus Samad said, “If a person has a family history of high blood pressure, risk is higher for concerned person.”
Professor Faseeh Hashmi, Professor Nazir Ashraf Laghari and Professor Ejaz Bhora, Professor Abdus Samad were in attendance. Awarding shields event also held.
