Special NA Committee considers PIA sacked employees’ cases

KARACHI: Special Committee on sacked employees in Islamabad has been approached by PIA employees terminated on misinterpretation of court orders and political victimisation by CEO of PIA Air Marshal Arshad Malik. 

According to informed sources, about 32 employees were dismissed/terminated from service on false and misinterpretation of court orders and political victimisation by then in 2018, while these employees were recruited and employed in PIA on genuine documents as advertised by PIA from time to time.

They had served airline for more than 15 to 31 years. Committee has been requested to consider their reinstatement on basis of genuine document, as required by PIA at time of their recruitment. First meeting of Special Committee was held in Islamabad on October 13, 2022 with Qadir Khan Mandokhail MNA Chairman of Committee. On November 25, 2022 in major relief to sacked employees of Multan and Peshawar electric companies, special committee of National Assembly restored services of more than 400 employees. Committee was informed that 350 employees of Multan Electric Power Company were dismissed from duty in 2013. After deliberations, committee ordered their reinstatement along with their salaries from date of their dismissal.

Meanwhile, dismissed employees of Peshawar Electric Supply Company appeared before committee. They said that 56 sub-divisional officers had joined duty on September 4, 2020, after adopting due process but a year later on September 30, 2021, they were terminated from services. Committee issued orders for reinstatement of all employees and payment of their outstanding arrears. Various other employees were rendered jobless as result of Supreme Court’s verdict authored by Justice Mushir Alam on eve of his retirement on August 17, 2021.

However, they were restored again by apex court on December 17, 2021, by exercising its suo moto power under Article 184 (3) of Constitution.
