Speaker NA calls PTI MNAs again for verification of resignations

ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly (NA) Raja Pervez Ashraf called PTI members of National Assembly again for verification of their resignations. According to sources Speaker NA has sent reply to letter written by PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi. Reference of rules regarding verification of resignations has been mentioned in letter.

It has been said in context of letter was written on May 30 for verification of resignations submitted on April 11. Time was given from June 6 to 10 for verification.

No MNA came to Speaker NA during this period for verification of resignation. Speaker NA again called PTI MNAs for verification saying that members who have resigned should appear in chamber for verification. In reply to letter speaker NA has said matter of resignation of any MNA is settled matter under rules and regulations-2007 of NA and parliamentary traditions. This matter has been set under rulings of chair and decisions of superior courts. Reference of rule 43 has also been given in letter. Speaker NA has to satisfy himself if resignation is original and has been given voluntarily. Secretary NA will issue gazette notification of acceptance of resignations following decision of Speaker NA. Copy of gazette notification will be sent to Election Commission so that seat could be declared vacant.

It is incumbent on member of NA to record date on resignation. If date is not mentioned on resignation then day on which resignation is submitted will be considered date for giving resignation.
