KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Energy Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said that large amount of foreign exchange can be saved by developing solar panels at local level, while employment opportunities can also be obtained.

He said that special incentives will be provided by Sindh government to foreign investors who manufacture solar panels in Sindh. Talking to media representatives he said that as result of K Electric’s recancellation in government utility bills over past 10 years, Energy Department saved Sindh government more than Rs 20 billion. Similarly, this year also, Energy Department saved more than Rs 2 billion. He said that all possible measures will be taken for early payment of legitimate dues of K Electric by various institutions of Sindh government. K Electric should not cut off electricity of any customer by justifying non-payment of bills. He said that K Electric, HESCO and SEPCO should provide uninterrupted electricity especially to consumers in harshest summer.

On Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s directives, attention should be given to providing free electricity to them. Nasir Shah said that 4 solar parks are being built to provide cheap electricity to people, three of which will be built in Karachi and one in Manjhand and gradually its scope would be expanded to entire province.
