SOEs running into losses add to economic woes: PM

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar said that country was facing financial problems and those state owned enterprises (SOEs) which had been incurring losses, were adding to these economic woes.

He chaired high-level meeting over affair of Pakistan International Airlines. Meeting was given detailed briefing over different issues of PIA. Meeting was attended by caretaker Minister for Privatisation Fawad Hassan Fawad, Adviser to PM Ahad Cheema and relevant authorities, PM Office Media Wing said in press release. During meeting, PM expressed his concerns over delayed decision making with regard to issues of PIA.

He stressed upon expediting privatisation process of PIA and other SOEs running into losses, adding that their losses could not be met with public tax money. Caretaker Prime Minister said that reforms in aviation sector could bring better facilities to public.

Transparency in process should be ensured, he emphasised adding fixing of responsibility for losses was requisite so that necessary steps should be taken to avoid further losses. Meeting was apprised of progress on financial situation of PIA and its privatisation process. All hurdles in its privatisation process were removed, it was further added.

PM Kakar directed for accelerating privatisation of national flag carrier to avoid further burden on national exchequer.
