Six arrested after clash during anti-encroachment drive

KARACHI: Situation became tense after violent clashes erupted between police and protesters in Gulistan-e-Jauhar block 11 during an anti-encroachment drive.
As per details, people gathered in area to demonstrate against an anti-encroachment drive. When officials of anti-encroachment department and Karachi Development Authority kicked off operation in line with orders of SHC, people staged protest in order to obstruct operation. They also blocked traffic on roads by putting tyres on fire. Protest met with baton charge when people turned violent and they resorted to stone pelting and aerial firing. Policeman was injured in incident and he has been shifted to hospital. Meanwhile, police arrested six people for interference in state affairs. Officials said land was being retrieved from illegal occupants, adding that it will be handed over to legitimate owners.
