SIU-CIA operation in Karachi: ‘Two terrorists possessing 1,000 detonators arrested’

KARACHI: Two alleged terrorists possessing 1,000 detonators were arrested from North Nazimabad during joint operation by Special Investigation Unit (SIU) and Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), a press release said.
According to statement from SIU Senior Superintendent of Police Junaid Ahmed Sheikh, two terrorists were “Arrested with explosive materials” while search was under way to find their third partner, who manage to flee.
SSP Sheikh said that 1,000 detonators were obtained from arrested suspects while two coil detonators were also seized.
He said in statement two terrorists were arrested while they were transferring explosives from one place to another within city. During preliminary investigation, suspects confessed to bringing explosives from Peshawar to Karachi to be used in “terrorist activities”, press release said. It added one to bring them was an absconding suspect. Statement revealed that partner of suspects was previously arrested from Charsadda with explosives as well and was sentenced to eight years in jail. Case has been registered against suspects in SIU police station under Explosive Substances Act, 1908 while further investigation is underway, release added.
