Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief Sirajul Haq stated that upcoming elections should be held on collective will of all political parties and not just on one party’s will. He criticised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for making person (Parvez Elahi), who was previously called big dacoit by Imran Khan, their party President. He criticised Pakistan Peoples’ Party for making Shehbaz Sharif Prime Minister, even though Shehbaz Sharif had previously claimed to drag PPP on roads. He urged all political parties to agree to hold simultaneous elections across country.
He stated that neither emergency nor martial law was solution to current situation. Meeting of Pakistan Democratic Movement was test of PDM’s ability to unite political parties. JI chief added that it was Prime Minister’s responsibility to convince political parties to hold elections.
He warned that some politicians still want to see martial law, even though they claim to support democracy. He said that there is no harm to political leaders whether there is martial law or so-called democracy in country.
He warned that if political parties do not come on same page regarding elections, there would be no general elections, only local elections. Call for collective will in upcoming elections is critical to ensure fair and democratic process, he added.
