Sindh to purchase 500 new buses: Sharjeel Memon

KARACHI: Sindh will purchase five hundred new buses at cost of twenty-five billion rupees in upcoming financial year to modernise transport system and provide better transport facilities to people of province. Decision was taken at meeting here today. Meeting was presided over by Sindh Minister for Information and Mass Transit Sharjeel Memon. Meeting also decided to introduce environment-friendly taxi service in province.
Sharjeel Memon directed officials concerned to bring all Buses of peoples Bus service on roads in Karachi and informed that twenty more Buses will be received by Sindh government by 15th of next month.
He announced that government has decided to introduce electric taxi service for citizens of Karachi. Chairing meeting related to transport sector, he announced launch of pink-coloured taxis for female passengers. Under project, over 200 electric taxis with 50 of them designated as pink taxis for women will be launched in first phase. He said that step aims to provide convenient and reliable transportation options for women in city.
Modern, affordable and environment-friendly electric taxi service will be launched in Karachi and extended to other major cities of province,” he said.
He said that government was working to acquire an additional 20 buses by June 15 under its Peoples Bus Service project. Furthermore, in an effort to expand Peoples’ Bus Service, government has directed initiation of new route from Hattri to Kisana Mori in Hyderabad.
