Sindh to donate 100,000 tents to Turkiye quake victims

KARACHI: Session of Sindh Cabinet approved donating 100,000 tents for victims of devastating earthquake in Turkiye. Major earthquake of magnitude 7.8 struck central Turkiye and northwest Syria in wee hours of Monday, killing over 1,800 people and injuring hundreds as buildings collapsed across region, triggering searches for survivors in rubble.
A session of Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah approved donation of tents for earthquake victims. “People of Turkiye extended generous supporting hand for flood victims of Sindh,” CM Shah said. “We could not leave our brethren in Turkiye in these testing times,” he added.
It is to be mentioned here that Turkiye’s state-run disaster and management agency AFAD had established tent city for flood victims of Sindh near Nooriabad in October last year.
Meanwhile, Cabinet decided to start wheat procurement from March 15 at rate of Rs 4,000 per 40 kg, approved Rs 58.7 billion for relief work, enhanced scope of Rapid Response Force and created crowd management unit to respond during violent public disorder.
Ministers, advisors, special assistants, Chief Secretary Sohail Rajput, Chairman P&D Hassan Naqvi, PSCM Fayaz Jatoi and concerned officers attended meeting.
CM Advisor on Law Murtaza Wahab briefed media about Ccabinet decisions. Cabinet condemned terrorist attack in Peshawar and expressed solidarity with people of Turkiye where southern areas have been hit by deadly earthquake. Cabinet also decided to dispatch 100,000 blankets to Turkiye for earthquake-affected people.
CM directed Advisor Agriculture to coordinate with federal government that has been provided Rs 8.39 billion for subsidy to farmers on rabi crops so that they could be distributed through BISP in time. Cabinet approved amount of Rs 25.036 billion released/to be released onward for relief and rehabilitation.
Cabinet took up issue of recent recruitments in police department in which there were some complaints of fake domicile. CM directed chief secretary to get all domiciles of newly recruited in police department verified so that genuine and locals could be recruited.
Cabinet was told that Inspector General Police has sent summary for expansion of Rapid Response Force (RRF) and establishment of Crowd Management Unit (CMU).
CM was told that expansion of RRF to entire province will enable district police or other LEAs to respond quickly in case of an emergency.
CMU is required to respond professionally during violent public disorder. To prevent loss of lives and damage to property, to manage unruly crowd and to maintain law and order.
Cabinet approved Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation Bill, 2022. Chairperson of Board shall be Mayor of KMC and in his absence Administrator KMC will be chairman.
Cabinet decided to grant higher grade on basis of Time-Scale for only isolated/non-promotional posts. Criteria for award of Time Scale would be given to employees after attaining age of 5,12,19 and 27 years of satisfactory service.
Health department presented policy of selection criteria for admission in B.S Nursing (Generic-4 years) Degree Programme-2022 for private sector colleges.
