Sindh Minister suspends SHOs on poor performance

Karachi: Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar suspended station house officer of Sharea Faisal Police Station after man in his late thirties was brutally shot dead resisting an armed roadside robbery in Johar Chowrangi area. “Incidents like this are unforgivable,” Lanjar said in statement after taking notice of tragic incident. So far at least six Station House Officers posted at different police stations of Karachi have been suspended during last month over surge in crimes in their respective jurisdictions.
As per details, SHO Shahrah Faisal Raja Tariq, SHO Bilal Colony Shahzada Salim, SHO Korangi Industrial Area Faraz and SHO Surjani Town Rao Nazim are among suspended police officers over deteriorated law and order in their respective jurisdictions. SHO Zaman Town Rao Rafiq has been suspended over his alleged involvement in robbery incident. SHO Orangi Town Rizwan Patel was also removed from post for poor performance.
At least 46 Karachi citizens have been killed so far in 2024 over resisting robberies with February recording highest number of 20 killings.
Month-wise data showed that February recorded most killings with 20 citizens losing their lives to robbers. In January, as many as 13 people were killed by robbers while around 13 city dwellers were murdered by dacoits in March so far.
In latest tragic incident, another young man was killed by armed robbers for resisting robbery in city.
Rahber Ali, aged 38, tragically lost his life late Thursday night after he tried to fight back during mugging, panicking assailants into opening fire on him. However, angry citizens nailed down robbers and subjected them to torture.
Meanwhile, statistics reveal that 47 citizens have been killed in mugging incidents in Karachi since beginning of this year. Further details indicate that six robbers were killed in 75 police encounters, while 93 suspects were arrested with injuries.
Akhtar Hussain, father of deceased Rahber Ali, told media persons that his son worked in online banking and food delivery. “My son was good human and used to take care of his younger brothers as their father,” said Hussain, lamenting that poverty is reason behind these robberies.
