KARACHI: Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has approved the schedule for the new academic year 2025-26.

As per details, a meeting of Sindh government’s steering committee on education convened to finalise the academic calendar. It has been decided that the new academic year 2025-26 will begin on April 7, 2025, instead of August 1, 2025. For classes 9 and 10, the board exams will take place in April and practical exams scheduled for March.

The department’s spokesperson also announced that intermediate exams will be held starting from April 28, 2025. Earlier, the provincial assembly passed the Sindh Universities Amendment Bill 2025 despite opposition’s protest. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Law, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar tabled the Sindh Universities Amendment Bill 2025 before the house. The session saw uproar from opposition members, with MQM legislators chanting slogans against the bill.  Following the bill’s re-approval in the Sindh Assembly, the objections raised by the Governor of Sindh were rejected.

Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori had refused to grant his assent to the bill and returned it to the provincial assembly for reconsideration, raising objections to the new law that expanded the eligibility criteria to the serving bureaucrats for appointment as vice chancellor in public-sector universities.
