KARACHI: Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Sardar Shah rejected Transparency International (TI)’s report calling it biased report made on assumption with set agenda to malign Sindh Education Department.

In reaction to TI report, Minister said that education department has introduced revolutionary reforms for first time in its history and recruited more than 50 thousand teachers in schools on merit basis under third party selection.

He added that recruitment is being done on merit to meet shortage of teaching staff in colleges through Sindh Public Service purely on merit. Besides, Department of Education had installed biometric system to ensure attendance of teaching and non-teaching staff.

He said that in past schools had been constructed on political basis on unviable sites. He quoted an example of one such planning that dozens of school buildings were constructed in village. He said that education department had closed all those unviable schools and was enhancing number of teaching staff in active schools.

He said that education department has limited resources as compared to its employees’ strength and major portion of its budget is being spent on salaries. He said that government is focusing on upgrading education system through use of technology.
