Sindh Cabinet okays to start rain losses assessment

Karachi: Sindh Cabinet directed district administrations across province to start assessment of losses of life, houses, crops, road network and sewerage system so that federal government could be approached to compensate affected people.
Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah directed local government department to get all damaged roads, sewerage lines of Karachi and other districts repaired.
He took this decision while presiding over a Cabinet meeting here. Sindh ministers, advisors, special assistants, chief secretary, chairman P&D and concerned officers attended meeting.
Cabinet was told that heavy monsoons caused havoc in city and rural areas of province. CM Advisor on Agriculture Manzoor Wassan said that date-crops were almost ready to harvest but heavy rains washed it away in Khairpur and caused a loss of billions of rupees to date growers. He took up issue of damage caused to other Kharif crops in province.
CM on recommendation of Cabinet directed all deputy commissioners across province to assess losses, including lives, katcha and pacca houses, road network, drainage and sewerage system so that federal government could be approached for grant of compensation. He said that his government would also help affected people from its resources.
Cabinet approved proposal to constitute a seven-member management board under Secretary School Education to run 53 educational institutions, including 31 schools and 22 madaris taken over by government in compliance with FATF terms.
Sardar Shah told Cabinet that his department has taken steps to oversee management of all taken over educational institutions.
Cabinet was told that roads and drainage system of all seven routes of Peoples Bus Service was damaged at different locations. Repair of roads and drainage systems would help smooth operation of newly launched bus service. Cabinet approved a proposal of Energy department to provide alternate energy solutions like Solar PV Technology for solarisation of villages. Minister Energy Imtiaz Shaikh briefing Cabinet said that a mini/micro grids, solar home systems would be established to provide electricity to villages under village electrification plan.
Cabinet on request of an NGO, Children of Adam approved allotment of 10-acres land for establishment of Neuro Psychiatric Centre at Deh Konkar, Karachi. Price fixation committee had fixed market price of land at Rs 13 million per acre, but Cabinet approved Rs 6.5 million per acre. Minister Information told Cabinet that 75-acre land was given to Hyderabad Press club. Minister Revenue Makhdoom Mahboob said that there was no provision to grant exemption. He proposed that Cabinet may give a grant to Press Club for payment of their taxes which Cabinet approved. Cabinet approved rules of Sindh Public Service Commission (Functions) 2022.
