Sindh approves funds for anti-bandit operation in katcha area

KARACHI: Sindh Cabinet approved funds for military-grade weapons to launch an anti-bandit operation in katcha area. Secretary Home Department and I.G. Police Sindh in briefing to Cabinet chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said that police will require military-grade arms to launch an effective operation against bandits in katcha area (riverine forest along Indus River).
Cabinet session was briefed that January 5 session of apex committee had recommended procurement of military-grade weapons, which requires 2.7 billion rupees funds.
Sindh Cabinet decided to conduct joint operation against dacoits in katcha area, which will be participated by Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan police departments. “It will be joint and pre-planned operation,” Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said.
Sindh police in January sought Rs 2.79 billion for purchase of military-grade sophisticated and heavy weapons. Sindh police forwarded summary to CM Murad Ali Shah, seeking Rs 2.79 billion for purchase of military-grade sophisticated and heavy weapons to eliminate criminals.
Cabinet gave nod to close Coronavirus Emergency Fund following control over endemic.
Six member-body of Coronavirus Emergency Fund headed by Chief Secretary was constituted by CM Murad Ali Shah to deal with endemic.
Funds worth Rs 3,699 million were deposited in fund, out of which Rs 3, 2077 million were spent, briefing said. Cabinet also gave consent to use remaining Rs 35 million funds for reconstruction of houses of flood victims. Another Rs 1.7 billion were raised through deductions from salaries of ministers/ advisors/ parliamentarians and employees of government.
