Held Srinagar: Complete shutdown will be observed in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir today to mark Kashmir Martyrs' Day.

Call for strike has been given by All Parties Hurriyat Conference and supported by all pro-freedom leaders and organisations to commemorate martyrdom of 22 Kashmiris who were killed by forces of Dogra ruler on July 13, 1931. APHC has also asked people of occupied territory to conduct march towards Martyrs' Graveyard at Naqshband Sahib in Srinagar to offer Fateha for departed souls. These martyrs remain buried at this Martyrs' Graveyard.

It is to mention here that thousands of people had assembled outside Srinagar Central Jail on July 13, 1931 during court proceedings against one Abdul Qadeer who had asked people to defy Dogra rule. At time of Namaz-e-Zuhr, young man started Azaan and was shot dead by Dogra soldiers. Another took his place and he too was martyred by troops. In this way, 22 youth lost their lives till completion of Azaan.

APHC leaders in their statements in Srinagar said that sacred blood of these martyrs ignited candle of freedom in Jammu and Kashmir. They said sacrifices of Kashmiri martyrs will not be allowed to go waste and ongoing struggle for freedom of Jammu and Kashmir will be taken to its logical conclusion.
