ISLAMABAD: On 95th birth anniversary of founder of Pakistan Peoples’ Party and former premier Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Minister for Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman urged apex court to conduct formal hearing of reference filed regarding his judicial killing and correct historical mistake. In flurry of tweets, he paid homage to her leader. “Today, under leadership of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Peoples’ Party is following mission of Shaheed Bhutto and Shaheed Bibi,” she added. Senator Rehman extended her best wishes on 95th birthday of Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto to his family, party leadership, workers and his fans all over world including Pakistan.
“As Pakistani and member of Party, today is very happy day for us. Born in Larkana on January 5, 1928, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto became first constitutionally elected Prime Minister of Pakistan, founder of Peoples’ Party, creator of Constitution of Pakistan and nuclear programme.
She added that main objective of his politics was to empower oppressed lower class and workers. He laid foundations of public politics and parliamentary democracy in Pakistan, giving people electoral politics as centre of power and authority that was never seen before in country’s history.
She underlined that Shaheed Bhutto gave social contract to keep federating units united. Bhutto ensured rights of poor, women and minorities along with social and economic justice, she added.
“By judicially killing Shaheed Bhutto, enemies thought that Constitution, democracy and Peoples’ Party would be destroyed from country. Today, I want to tell this mindset that despite all your efforts and oppression Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s Constitution, democracy and Party are intact.”
Meanwhile, Rehman said silence and helplessness of world on issue of Occupied Kashmir was condemnable and regrettable. In series of tweets, she said Kashmiris around world celebrate Right to Self-Determination Day every year on January 5 to garner global attention towards their longstanding issue.
“According to United Nations resolution of January 5, 1949, India is required to give Kashmiris right to decide their future. But this resolution has not been implemented for past 74 years.”
