SHC rejects MQM-P’s plea to postpone LG polls in Khi, Hyd

KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) rejected Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan’s (MQM-P) petition to halt second phase of Local Government (LG) elections in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions.

MQM-Pakistan moved SHC seeking delay in LG polls in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions over issue of delimitations.

Earlier, Election Commission of Pakistan rejected petitions filed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan regarding ambiguity in voter lists in Karachi and Hyderabad.

A three-member ECP bench, headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja announced verdict after hearing arguments of MQM-P and other parties.

Meanwhile, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan an ally of Shehbaz Sharif-led coalition government, yesterday threatened to sit on opposition benches over delimitations issue.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement factions including MQM-Pakistan, MQM Bahali Committee and Pak-Sarzameen Party staged protest outside ECP office in Karachi against delimitations.
