SHC orders to bring modern system for eliminating ghosts, absentee teachers

KARACHI: Secretary Education Department Sindh informed Sindh High Court (SHC) that Education Department has identified 1,645 teachers who are absent from duty. During hearing regarding ghost teachers of Education Department Secretary submitted written report, stating that Department has completed scrutiny of absent teachers and action will be taken on December 31. He also submitted show-cause notices were served to 1,481 teachers.
Court questioned why no action was taken against ghost teachers before court order. Court expressed displeasure at not getting satisfactory response. Court inquired about what modern procedures have been adopted to ensure attendance of teachers and students.
Chief Secretary and Education Secretary said that biometric system is necessary for attendance of teachers and students. Court ordered introduction of modern system to eliminate ghosts and absentee teachers. Court ordered concrete measures to bring out of school children in schools.
